I've been on the road all of this week and am currently over 2200 miles from home. It's been fun so far, but also a bit stressful: it's a working vacation, and work keeps wanting more of my time. I'm a little stressed out, especially after a long day of driving and then logging in to work.
This has given me a new perspective on working for a corporation, which I already have a low opinion of. The issue at work it important enough that it has to get done, and I'm the only one who can really do it. At the same time, I'm on a vacation that I've been planning for the past 18 months (off and on). My priority at the moment is to make sure that those with me (my brother and sister) are healthy, safe, and having fun. But I can't forget my obligations to others. If I were at home right now, I would be working overtime every day and even on the weekends until the issue was resolved. Right now, I try to log on to my work laptop for a few hours each evening through a crappy hotel network and not go insane when a right-click doesn't respond for over a minute.
Simply put, the hardware/software combination is holding me back from doing what little work I can during the time I'm able to log on, even though that's a time I should be spending with my brother and sister.
