As some of you may remember, I'm taking Piano II this semester. It's the highest level piano class they offer, unless I want to sign up for the independent study. Since I want to explore other areas, I'm going to pass on that.
I'm auditing the class, which is about the best move I could have made. I don't have to worry about a grade, and so don't have to do the homework or take the tests. As long as I otherwise act like any other student, I can focus on what I want, which is to improve my overall playing skills.
I'm actually ignoring the songs that the rest of the students have to play for a grade each week and just doing fingering exercises. I'm also starting to play parts of the songs that inspired me to take the classes in the first place. In fact, I'm hoping to play one of them as my unrequired final performance piece.
