Another massive question is what I want to do with my time. I see a few general options to choose from: I can continue to work for someone else, start my own business, create multiple income streams that add up to a full time paycheck, or some combination of the three. I don't think I'll add 'winning the lottery' to the list.
The easiest, sort of, is simply working for someone else. It's the path of least resistance, though I have to decide what I want to work on. The next most difficult is creating multiple income streams. This could include royalty checks from a published book, ebook sales, ad revenue form my blog, selling photography on a site like photostockplus.com, selling 3D objects on shapeways.com, selling clothes with various saying and/or images on them at cafepress.com, and so on. There are a lot of possibilities, as long as I keep my imagination going. The most difficult way to make a living, but potentially the most rewarding (in many ways), is to start my own business. This also has the biggest risk, as I would need a good idea, a hungry market, and a lot of drive to get anywhere.
At the moment, I'm inclined to continue to work for someone else while I build up a few side income streams. Beyond that, who knows? I'll talk about some ideas in another post.
